This inquiry and problem-based approach to learning help students develop STEM knowledge, and confidence in their ability to engage with STEM, and helps students gain insights into ways of working on teams and collaborating with others that are valued by employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lemelson-MIT Program<\/a><\/span> mission is to inspire young people to pursue creative lives and careers through invention, and to support their development as inventors and creative problem solvers through invention education opportunities. The program is focused on helping young people and their teachers learn how to invent technological solutions to problems that students care about. They work with educators and students span all ages and stages of development, providing a pathway to invention for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research &amp; Reports<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/node\/4773\" target=\"_blank\">Measuring the value of invention<\/a><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/node\/2511\" target=\"_blank\">Researching Invention Education: White Paper<\/a><\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/node\/4742\" target=\"_blank\">Where\u2019s the Computer Science in invention?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/inventioneducation\/research-reports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">And More<\/span><\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resources<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">Lemelson-MIT<\/span><\/a> offers free <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/resources\/curriculum-invention\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JV InvenTeams<\/a><\/span> curricula for students in grades 6-10 to hone their hands-on skills and enrich their STEM education through invention-based design activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/resources\/bee-inventor\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Bee&#8221; the Inventor<\/a><\/span> is a 10-page STEAM activity book that teaches kids (ages 6-8) about invention through the role leafcutter bees play in our environment. Kids learn how to build a bee house prototype for bees, Shagun and Dwij.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/resources\/howtoons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seeing the future: A guide to visual communication<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This booklet teaches kids (ages 7-12) how to sketch their invention ideas by creating patent drawings. Activities include drawing 2D lines and figures, creating thumbnail sketches, and using vanishing point perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/resources\/inventor-handbook\"><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">Inventor Handbook<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lemelson.mit.edu\/resources\/invention-and-patent-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Invention and Patent Resources<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><em>Invention education is an emerging and trans-disciplinary approach to education with meaningful outcomes for students of all backgrounds, educators and communities.
